MELISSA BYERS, B.S. Intern

Melissa is a graduate student in the Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Capella University. She is completing her practicum and internship at Intuition Therapy Collective, where she provides counseling services under supervision.  With a background in substance use and addiction, Melissa is passionate about supporting individuals in recovery as well as those navigating mental health challenges. Her clinical interests include trauma-informed care, substance use, co-occurring disorders, and harm reduction strategies.

Melissa primarily uses Motivational Interviewing and Person-Centered approaches, fostering a safe, supportive and collaborative environment where clients feel heard, respected and empowered to create meaningful change. Known for her empathy, adaptability and reflective nature, she strives to meet clients where they are and honor each individual’s unique journey.

As Thich Nhat Hanh reminds us, “No mud, no lotus.” Just like the lotus flower needs mud to grow, Melissa believes that past struggles, when met with mindfulness and awareness, can help people discover their own strength and resilience. She sees challenges as opportunities for growth, and this perspective guides her work to create a space where clients feel seen, respected and supported.
